Listed below are the church organizations at Mt. Nebo AME Church. If you want to be involved, inquire how to join the organization through it’s leader or our pastor . We LOVE active members!

Church Organizations

Steward Board                        Steward Pro-tem, Lorrie Richardson          

Stewards are nominated by the pastor and confirmed by the Quarterly Conference for a term of one year. The Stewards are accountable for the managing of the money of the church, provide for the needs of the pastor, monitor the spiritual growth of the church, seek the needy and distressed, keep records of marriages, and maintain records on the status of members.

Stewardess Board                 President, Anna Bell Porcher

Stewardesses are responsible for providing the elements for Holy Communion. They also assist the ministerial staff with Holy Communion and Baptismal rites. Stewardesses are appointed by the pastor.

Trustee Board                     Pro-tem, Sheila Powell        

Trustees are elected by the church conference and confirmed by the quarterly conference. Trustees serve for a term of one year. They are responsible for the physical upkeep of the church and any other property under the authority of the church.  They are also authorized to represent the church as signers of contracts and other legal documents.

Washington- Young WMS           President, Linda Young

WMS is a connectional organization comprised of men and women who seek to help each person grow in the knowledge and experience of God through his son Jesus Christ. The WMS also seeks fellowship with women in other lands. It provides opportunities and resources to meet the changing needs and concerns of women and youth through intensive training, recruitment, and Christian witnessing.  The mission statement of the WMS is “We are called to strengthen our faith and sent to continue the ministry of Jesus Christ by service and witness in the world.”

YPD                                             Director, Sara Young

Provides meaningful youth training programs in all areas of church life, which will provide for full participation in the total mission of the church. YPD’ers also enjoy educational programs designed to increase their knowledge of African Methodist Episcopal Church history and the Holy Scriptures and opportunities to share in the leadership experience.

Lay Organization                  President, Sonia Washington

Lay Organization comprised of members of the congregation from all walks of life. The purpose of the Lay Organization is to organize and train the laity of the African Methodist Episcopal Church

Christian Education Department        Director, Sis Lorrie Richardson                                                                  

The CED is to undergird all other auxiliaries of the A.M.E. church by building and strengthening a foundation of resources to increase their faith in Christ, so that its members can competently stand as ambassadors of the Kingdom of God in this world. The Book of Discipline charges the Department of Christian Education with responsibility for “Developing standards, preparing programs, offering classes, teaching Christian education, publishing material, training people for pastoral ministry and other church vocations” in accordance with the tradition and doctrine of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Sons of Allen                           President, Jesse Etheridge

Sons of Allen: In 1984, the African Methodist Episcopal Church created the Sons of Allen Men’s Fellowship to foster closer relationships between men of the church, to equip men of the church for meaningful service, to reach unchurched men, and to present positive role models for our youth.

Daughters of Sarah               President, Alfreda Hawkins

The purpose of this organization is to teach young females of the church God’s Word, self-discipline, strategic movement, and reinforce spiritual morals. To work as a unit to study and to promote positive attributes of African American women by encouraging women to become involved in helping other women to find Christ in their lives.

Pastor Aid Board                              President, Amy Bethune

Pastors Aid board provides support for the pastor’s personal needs and provides special gifts to the pastor for holidays and birthday. Membership is open to all members of the church. Meetings are held at the call of the president.

Usher Board                       President, Susan Simmons

Usher Board serve as the “Door Keepers” to the church. They greet you at the sanctuary doors, pass out the Bulletins, and seat members in the sanctuary. The Ushers also assist the Stewards with the collection of Tithes/Offerings, and help with the seating of people at the Communion table.

The Church School              Superintendent, Sis. Melvenia S. Greene





The Church School seeks to teach all of the students the Word of God and to be faithful and obedient to it. It is composed not only of children and youth, but also a large adult class. Students receive a strong Christian foundation from the instruction they receive from the committed Church School teachers under the leadership of the Church School Superintendent.  All are welcome to share in this Christian fellowship. The Church School is our primary vehicle for Christian Education.

Music Department                Director, David Taylor

Consist of the music and arts ministries of the church.  There are 4 choirs in this ministry:

YPD Choir, Celestial Choir, Inspirational Choir and Senior Choir.

Widow & Bereavement Ministry       Chairperson, Sis. Tiffany DeVeaux
Mt. Nebo AME Church &Widow and Bereavement Ministry provides critical support to individuals, families, and the broader community by fostering a compassionate and healing environment. The ministry's mission is to guide those processing different forms of grief through the coping activities.
Health Ministry                                     Chairperson, Sis. Jacquita Smith
Mt. Nebo AMEC Health Ministry is dedicated to nurturing the whole person (body, mind, and spirit) through compassionate care, wellness education, and prayerful support.
3M Mighty Men Ministry of Mt. Nebo       Chairperson, Julius Mitchell

This ministry was created for the men of this church, to detail and create faith within the Lord and faith in yourself and faith in your fellow man, and for the uplifting and the betterment of the church itself.
